professional development opportunities
The Southern Arizona Writing Project offers several professional development opportunities for teachers from all grade levels and content areas. Following the National Writing Project model, in which teacher professional development is led by teachers, SAWP programs range from the intensive, invitational summer institute, to a variety of inservice and continuity programs.
*Write to Learn Saturdays* and *Saturday Writing Communities* provide both structured and unstructured opportunities for teachers to write and hone their craft.
*Professional Learning Communities* are grant-funded small groups of teachers who design their own program of professional development based on common interests. PLCs may pursue a variety of goals, such as writing for publication, studying specific issues (ELL, assessment, early literacy, action research, writing across the curriculum, using technology to teach writing).
The *Invitational Summer Institute* is an intensive five-week program which offers teachers a chance to reinforce and fine tune good teaching of writing, to develop and try new approaches, and to experience professional renewal.
