Sociology in the Writing Classroom

Demonstrates the power of using issues from the society in the classroom. From debates about public and critical issues to analysis of advertisement, music, films, current social problems, and the way in which we relate to our social environment, the focus is on society as a whole. Demonstrates the value of making a connection to the students and allowing them to find their own voice through specific tools. Includes assignments, student samples, letters, and photos.

Implicit Instruction in the Writing Process and Teamwork through Collaboratively Composed Summaries

Engages teachers in the team writing of a summary of an article. The process highlights collaboration as it takes the participants through all stages of the writing process, and culminates with the collaborative composing of a rubric for successful collaboration.
